Issue/Introduction

When running a Clarity upgrade, it's stuck on a certain step and does not seem to progress further

Resolution

Note that some of Clarity upgrade steps may update entire tables and may be slow for many records. The recommendation is not to abort the upgrade if you have evidence that it's running actively on database end

  • Verify that you are not running into an environmental issue as described here Clarity Upgrade stuck in sleep (environmental) (typically on Windows)
  • Check with DBA to confirm if there is any blocking sessions on the database or locks
  • Identify if there is a specific query that takes long time
  • Ensure the database maintenance has been run
  • Check fragmentation on the database / table - if fragmentation is high, the upgrade may run slower on certain items
  • To fix high fragmentation, rollback the upgrade, export the database backup and restore the schema again. On refresh it will be defragmented
  • If there is a specific database table that is slow, ensure that there is no custom database objects. If you see any additional indexes or triggers, they have the potential to significantly slow down updates on that table
