AAI not sending emails for Alerts or Data Insights

Issue/Introduction
After configuring AAI to use a SMTP server in the AAI Configuration tool, emails are not being received for Alerts and/or Data Insights.
For jobstreatm alerts or the reportingservice.log for Data Insights you may see messages like below:
[EmailSender] Unable to send email alert
javax.mail.internet.AddressException: Local address contains control or whitespace
at javax.mail.internet.InternetAddress.checkAddress(InternetAddress.java:1239)

The error indicates a problem with the SMTP sender address in the AAI configuration tool.
Specifically it is referring a blank space, before, after, or in the SMTP sender address before the @ symbol.
For example below is a valid SMTP sender address:
aai_emailsender@<domain>.com
Where below is not a valid sender address:
aai emailsender@<domain>.com
Notice the space after AAI above will cause the email to fail to be sent out, and is the cause of the error above.
In order to resolve this issue verify the SMTP sender email contains no spaces and/or special characters.
