Issue/Introduction

We have a request to duplicate an existing AP console.  We'd like to have two of the same console, one with "Prod" in the title with black background and green text, and one with "Nonprod" in the title with cyan text.
We are aware the AP Config Manager doesn't allow the same Session Names for both.  The consoles just need to appear different on the Remote Viewing Client end that they are using.

When I attempted this I found that one console would connect, but not the second at the same time.  I found if I disconnect the first console, then the second one will connect.

Resolution

Define a second, or alternate, console on the LPAR and use it as a second access point by adding a new session to Automation Point.

It is possible to have multiple users/sessions open the console so long as the multiple sessions have different addresses.  If they have the same address, then it's only allowed to be accessed via 1 session, and opening the second session will disconnect the first one, as described in the introduction above.   It's similar to accessing TSO via TPX. When accessing TSO in a second session with the same username, the first session will disconnect.

Remember that MVS consoles only allow 1 user to be logged on at a time.  When a second person subsequently logs on, the first logon gets disconnected. This is why it is recommended to define an alternate console at the LPAR and connect the AP Session to the alternate console.
