Issue/Introduction

  • After upgrading an NSX Manager appliance to 4.2.2.1, you may observe that the /dev/sda disk partition is not mounted.
  • When running the lsblk command it shows that the /dev/sda disk are listed.

  • However, it does not appear in the output of df -h (i.e., it is not mounted).

Environment

Product: VMware NSX (specifically NSX-T Manager Appliance)
Versions Affected: NSX-T 4.2.2.x
Component: NSX Manager Appliance

Resolution

  • It is an expected behavior post upgrading the NSX manager to 4.2.2.x, the admin may not see all the /dev/sda showing as mounted in the output of "df -h"

Additional Information

  • Each NSX Manager Unified appliance VM comes with 2 slots for OS, "/" & "/os_bak".
  • The Upgrade process keeps toggling between them for each upgrade.
  • The mapping of sda to path can keep changing and two back to back upgrades will bring the mapping back to the original state.
  • "\os_bak" is not needed after the Manager upgrade is complete. It does not matter if it is mounted or in an unmounted state.
Note - Please do not perform any action to mount or unmount these folders manually.
