Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

  • File server connectivity issues on one host:

  • ESXi host reports DNS lookup error on one particular IP address:

Environment

VMware vSAN 7.x

VMware vSAN 8.x

Cause

This issue is caused when there is a connectivity issues between the ESXi host and at least one of the DNS server IP addresses.

This can be verified by pinging the DNS IP reporting in the skyline health alert:

Ping test to that IP address is failing while to all the other IP addresses is passing.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, fix the connectivity issue between the ESXi host and the DNS server by taking assistance from the customers network/DNS team.

As a workaround, we can remove the IP from the DNS configuration and also remove it from the vSAN file share configuration under vSAN cluster > Manage > vSAN - Services > vSAN File Service.

Once removed, the alert will not be reported anymore.
