Issue/Introduction

When attempting to mount a remote vSAN datastore to a cluster errors related to having the required license are displayed and the configuration cannot proceed.

Environment

vSAN 7.x
vSAN 8.x
vSAN 9.x

Cause

The vSAN storage cluster providing the storage for remote mounting does not have a vSAN Enterprise license, and/or the client cluster does not have the appropriate license as below:

  • vSphere clusters (aka compute-only clusters or vSAN Compute Nodes) – no vSAN license is required on the client cluster
  • vSAN HCI cluster acting as a client – vSAN Enterprise license is required on the client cluster

Resolution

Apply the required license to the cluster with the error in the configuration wizard.
