Issue/Introduction

Symptoms

  • The Site Recovery Manager appliance shows as Not accessible under the Site Recovery plug-in in the vSphere Client.

  • The Configure option is unavailable (greyed out) in the plug-in

  • You cannot launch the VAMI. Accessing the VAMI manually using the appliance IP address or FQDN results in a timeout.

  • You cannot establish an SSH connection to the SRM appliance.

  • Pinging the SRM appliance returns "Destination host unreachable"

  • The SRM network uses VLAN tagging configured at the virtual switch level.

Environment

VMware Site Recovery Manager 8.x

VMware Live Site Recovery 9.x

Cause

This issue occurs when the SRM appliance loses network connectivity due to incorrect or missing VLAN configuration. If VLAN tagging is configured at the virtual switch level, the appliance network adapter must be connected to a port group with the correct VLAN ID settings. A mismatch between the VLAN configuration on the virtual switch and the physical network switch can cause complete loss of network connectivity to the appliance.

Resolution

To resolve this issue:

  • Open the vSphere Client.

  • Locate the SRM appliance VM.

  • Check the Port Group settings for the network adapter.

  • Ensure the VLAN ID matches the configuration on the upstream physical switch.

  • Engage your internal networking team and verify that the virtual machine portgroup is configured with the correct VLAN id and check the switchports connected to vmnics allowing the tagged vlan traffic
