We're trying to enable TCP monitoring for our Windows N10 clients. Our monitoring points have been online for several days but TCP Monitoring is not yet permitted. Currently in our Manage Monitoring Points page, we see our Window N10's are not TCP Capable:
There could be several reasons why NPCAP is failing to install, but a some common causes are:
- Settings not enabled in your organization in the AppNeta Portal
- Incompatible versions (1.78 or older)
- Older AppNeta N10 releases (use version 16.3.0 or newer)
- Firewall Issues
Some steps to review:
1. Begin by ensuring an Organizational Administrator has enabled AppNeta Npcap Management. The settings can be found here:
https://techdocs.broadcom.com/us/en/ca-enterprise-software/it-operations-management/appneta/GA/appliance-overview/appliance-where/nmp-in-user-env.html#title-native-monitoring-point-nmp-in-a-user-environment_appneta-npcap-management:~:text=Npcap%20library%20manually.-,AppNeta%20Npcap%20Management,-Please%20note%20the
2. If you've already installed Npcap, verify if your running an supported release. This can be confirmed by selecting your N10 in the Monitoring Point portal:
Note that the NPCAP Management value indicating none suggests that the setting has not been enabled by an Organization Administrator.
In the above example, the user may have installed Npcap indirectly, such as installing an application such as Wireshark
3. Firewall issues may also prevent the installation from completing. Although this can be difficult to diagnose, a starting point is to run the following in Windows Powershell, which is a curl-like command:
> Invoke-WebRequest http://appliance-repo.pm.appneta.com
And also:
> Invoke-WebRequest http://appliance-repo.pm.appneta.com/update/all/update-win-nmp.json
These findings can be shared to Technical Support to help review the issue you're experiencing.
