After root and sshuser passwords updated directly in appliance, attempts to change the password alias were unsuccessful.

Issue/Introduction

After password expiration, the root and sshuser passwords were updated directly in the Identity Manager appliance. Subsequent attempts to change the password alias in LCM failed.  

In the UI the following error message is reported in the request:  "Error Code: LCMVACONFIG80003 Failed to update the password. You can send a new password update request by making sure the current password his correct and the new password has not been already used."

 

Environment

VMware Identity Manager (vIDM) (Workspace One) 3.3.x

VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle (vRSLCM) 8.x

Cause

Passwords are out of sync

Resolution

Create a new Password Alias and run inventory sync using the steps in Remediating passwords updated outside of VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle
