Cluster Expansion fails with ERROR: VSPHERE_ADD_HOST_TO_DATACENTER_FAILED

Issue/Introduction

When trying to expand a cluster it fails on the stage: Add host to Datacenter

 

The following can we seen from the sddc manager logs

/var/log/vmware/vcf/domainmanager/domainmanager.log

Failed to add host <HOST_NAME> to Datacenter <DATACENTER_NAME>
com.vmware.evo.sddc.orchestrator.exceptions.OrchTaskException: Failed to add host  <HOST_NAME> to Datacenter <DATACENTER_NAME>

Caused by: com.vmware.evo.sddc.common.client.vmware.vsphere.VsphereOperationException: Task: (MOR:task-######) (Name:addStandaloneHost) Entity: (MOR:group-h5) (Name:host) is failed

Caused by: com.vmware.vim.binding.vmodl.fault.NotEnoughLicenses: License not available to perform the operation.

"The  license assigned to Host <HOSTNAME> has expired. Recommend updating the license."}]
 
 

Environment

VCF 5.2.x

Cause

Host was commission with an evaluation license that had expired

Resolution

A valid license needs to be present prior to commissioning hosts
