Issue/Introduction

Handle reconciliation for VMs that are part of vMotion migration within and across vCenter instances.

Environment

VMware Aria Automation 8.18.1 and above

Resolution

Starting  8.18.1 and above of VMware Aria Automation, automatically reconciles the changes to your virtual machines after vMotion/migration. The supported scenarios include:

  • Migration within the same vCenter
  • Migration across different vCenter instances
  • Migration across NSX-T networks

VMware Aria Automation now also includes a new event topic Compute post migration reconcile status, which is initiated after a VM is reconciled. The event topic includes the status of the VM reconciliation in VMware Aria Automation and the destination details of the migrated VM.

However, functionality like full VM restoration such as backup and restore and other events that change the VM UUID will not be supported.  As it is looking for specific "migration" events in vSphere to perform the tracking and correction of metadata.

Additional Information

"No IPAM support"  VM migration reconciliation mean "the network of the VMs must be dynamic". Static IP address can be used, but VM migration reconciliation doesn't touch IP address of the VM. If the VM moved to a network that has the range doesn't cover the original IP address, the reconciliation won't update the IP address of the VM. It will not reserve or release the IP address from the IP range either.
