Issue/Introduction

  • Unable to add host to the workload domain due to failure during "Create vSAN Disk Groups" with Error: VSAN Cluster validation failed on <vCenter FQDN>

  • Log snippet : /var/log/vmware/vcf/domainmanager/domainmanager.log

    YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS.###+0000 ERROR [vcf_dm,####################,####] [c.v.e.s.o.model.error.ErrorFactory,dm-exec-9]  [Q5VUDE] VSPHERE_VSAN_CLUSTER_POST_VALIDATION_FAILED VSAN Cluster validation failed on <vCenter_name>
    com.vmware.evo.sddc.orchestrator.exceptions.OrchTaskException: VSAN Cluster validation failed on <vCenter_name>

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation 5.x

VMware Cloud Foundation 9.x

Cause

Host addition fails because vSAN cluster validation on the target vCenter reports that the cluster resource is unavailable. The domain manager logs show this error during validation:

'resourcesAvailable"=false'.

  • YYYY-MM-DDTHH:MM:SS.###+0000 DEBUG [vcf_dm,####################,####] [c.v.e.s.c.c.v.vsan.VsanManagerBase,dm-exec-9]  VSAN Cluster Status: VsanClusterStatusInfo(numberOfDataDisksInUse=0, numberOfDataDisksEligible=0, numberOfSsdDisksInUse=0, numberOfSsdDisksEligible=12, numberOfHostsInUse=12, lowestNumberOfHostsInClusterNode=12, numberOfHostsInClusterNode=12, pendingObject=<esxi_name>, <esxi_name>:DISK:t10.NVMe____Dell_Express_Flash_NVMe_P4610_1.6TB_SFF_<device_serial_number>, healthVersionInconsistent=false, resourcesAvailable=false)

Typically this issue is encountered if a node in vSAN cluster is unhealthy.

To review vSAN daemon liveness, Open vSphere Client > Cluster > Monitor > vSAN > Skyline Health > All > vSAN daemon liveness and review the status.

Resolution

If you encounter this issue, contact Broadcom support and open a support ticket with vSAN team to address vSAN issues.
