During planned maintenance or activities that impact virtual machines, hosts or any other object, it may be necessary to temporarily suppress alerts in Aria Operations to prevent unnecessary notifications and noise in alert management.
VMware Aria Operations 8.x
Alerts are continuously triggered based on real-time monitoring and predefined alert conditions even during scheduled maintenance activities leading to unnecessary critical or warning alerts.
There are three options available for suppressing alerts on objects in Aria Operations. Please note that the location of Inventory Management and Policy Definitions may vary across different versions. The steps outlined below are specific to Aria Operations version 8.18.
Option 1: Suspend an alert temporarily
Use this option to pause specific alerts for a defined time period.
Navigate to Troubleshoot > Alerts.
Select the relevant alert from the list.
Click Actions and choose Suspend.
Enter the desired duration (in minutes) to suspend the alert.
Option 2: Start maintenance mode to suppress all alerts on an object
This option disables data collection and suppresses all alerts on the selected object(s).
Navigate to Configuration > Inventory Management.
Use the search box to find the specific object.
Select the object and click Start Maintenance.
Configure the start and end time of the maintenance window, or choose to run it indefinitely and manually stop it later once the activity is completed.
Option 3: Create a policy to disable an alert while continuing data collection
Use the below option when you want to suppress alerts but continue collecting data from the object.
Navigate to Configuration > Policy Definitions.
Create a New Policy by inheriting the existing policy and go to the Alerts and Symptoms section.
Select the appropriate Object Type (e.g., Host System).
Select the alert from the list, click Actions > Deactivate.
