Unable to patch ESXI host with error - Unable to download VIB from any of the URLs

Issue/Introduction

Patching the host using esxcli software profile update -p fails with the following error:

Unable to download VIB from any of the URLs zip:/vmfs/volumes/Datastore/FolderName/VIBFile
url = zip:/vmfs/Datastore/ESXI_Patch/VIBFile
localfile = /tmp/vibdownload/VIBFile
Please refer to the log file for more details.

 

Environment

ESXI 8.x

Cause

On the host check the log file /var/run/log/esxupdate.log the following errors are observed:

Unable to download from zip

Bad CRC-32 for file

Resolution

Try using a new/fresh copy of the vib/zip file that is being used to patch the ESXI host as the message Bad CRC-32 indicates a possible issue with the file being used.
