MPA service not running on an ESXi host transport node

Issue/Introduction

Management Plane Agent (MPA) is an important componet of NSX services. However, if you run the command below on ESXi Host Transport Node, it shows that mpa is not running and also failed to start.

[root@esxi:~] /etc/init.d/nsx-mpa status
NSX-Management-Plane-Aget is not running

[root@esxi:~] /etc/init.d/nsx-mpa start
Unable to add rp for mpa
Not starting decommisioned NSX-Mangement-Plane-Agent

Environment

NSX 4.2.x

Resolution

• This is an expected behavior. MPA service is not running on ESX Host Transport Node, although it is running on NSX Edge Transport Node.
• It is recommended to run "nsxcli -c get controllers" on ESX Host Transport Node to verify the connectivity between ESXi and NSX Manager Cluster.
