Error 'Failed to get IP addresses of domain controllers through DNS Server' while configuring Directory Service for vSAN File Service

Issue/Introduction

  • Configuring the Directory service for the vSAN File Service may fail with the below error:

    "Failed to get IP addresses of domain controllers through DNS Server"

  • This issue will be reported if the vSAN File Services nodes are connected to the NSX-T network.

Environment

VMware vSAN 7.0
VMware vSAN 8.0

Cause

MAC Learning was not enabled on the Segment Profile for the segment being used by vSAN File Services.

If using NSX-based network, MAC Learning should be enabled for the provided network entity from the NSX admin console, and all the hosts and File Services nodes are connected to the desired NSX-T  network.

Resolution

Enable MAC Learning on the Segment Profile for the segment being used by vSAN File Services.
