Issue/Introduction

  • Post vCenter Server version 8.0 u2 and later, a user cannot set CPU reservation in percentage with the new VM Class UI.

  • In the old UI, a user could specify the reservation in & without having to calculate CPU frequency based on the cluster nodes.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0 u2 and later

Cause

The ability to set/configure CPU/memory reservations as percentage values is deprecated. The same has been done considering the resource allocation logic that Kubernetes applies which is based on distribution of CPU cycles. By this way, the VI Admins have the ability to create VM Classes with an explicit number of CPU / core choices and fine tune their configuration better.

Resolution

The CPU and memory reservations can only be set using MHz and MB/GB respectively.
