VMware vSphere ESXi VMware vCenter Server 8.0

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms :

  • When changing the EVC mode from Intel® "Ice Lake" & Intel® "Sapphire Rapids" Generation, for a cluster in which ESXi hosts are on 7.0U3 and of same model and same CPU series.
  • In the vCenter UI, we will observed the below error :
    • Error: The host's CPU hardware does not support the cluster's current Enhanced vMotion Compatibility mode. The host CPU lacks features required by that mode

Environment

  • VMware vSphere ESXi 8.0u1 and above.
  • VMware vCenter Server Appliance 8.0U1 and above.

Cause

CPU features of  Intel® "Sapphire Rapids" Generation EVC mode are not supported until vSphere 8.0U1.

Resolution

  • Upgrade the ESXi hosts to 8.0U1 or above to support the features for EVC mode  Intel® "Sapphire Rapids" Generation

Note : vCenter needs to be on 8.0U1 and above.
