Issue/Introduction

  • Performing cluster prechecks reports an error: "Host faults in EMM dry run"

  • If we try to put the host on maintenance mode through the vSphere Client it does not report any issues
  • Hosts of the cluster do not have resource contention and affinity and anti-affinity rules has been checked and/or deactivated

  • vSphere HA Admission Control is enabled in the cluster

Environment

VMware SDDC Manager 4.x
VMware SDDC Manager 5.x

Cause

Admission control imposes constraints on resource usage. Any action that might violate these constraints is not permitted.

In clusters with a small amount of ESXi hosts we might be short on resources to satisfy the Admission control requirements.

To use vSphere HA admission control you must have at least 3 hosts in the cluster.

Resolution

vSphere HA admission control can be temporarily deactivated to perform the upgrade. Do not permanently deactivate admission control.
