Issue/Introduction

During an upgrade from Network Flow Analysis (NFA) Console version 23.3.8 to version 24.3.9, the upgrade process hung. Upon investigation, the CA MySQL service was missing post-upgrade.

Environment

DX NetOps Network Flow analysis version 23.3.8 & 24.3.9

Cause

The issue occurred because User Access Control (UAC) was set to “Notify”, and the installer was likely not run with Administrator privileges. This led to incomplete installation and missing services.

Resolution

Option 1: Restore to Pre-upgrade State

Terminate the Upgrade:

Open Task Manager.

Kill the hung upgrade process.

Restore NFA:

Option A: Revert to a VM snapshot taken before the upgrade.

Option B: Reinstall NFA and restore from backup if no snapshot is available.

Re-run the Installer:

Disable UAC.

Right-click the installer and select "Run as Administrator" to restart the upgrade.

Recommendation:

To avoid this issue in future upgrades:

Always disable or set UAC to “Never Notify”.

Ensure the installer is explicitly run as Administrator.

Additional Information

Always ensure UAC is set to Never Notify, and the installer is run with administrative privileges when performing system-level upgrades to avoid service failures.
