Issue/Introduction

  • During VM migration using VMware Cloud Director Availability (VCDA) the Cloud Director managed VMs are missing four character suffix in their name in vSphere.
  • When Migrating a VM from one site to another, the name of the migrated VM in destination vSphere changes to the name of source VM in source vSphere.

Environment

  • VMware Cloud Director 10.6.1
  • VMware Cloud Director Availability 4.7.3.x

Resolution

This is known behaviour in the VCDA, it is not having an impact on the operation of the migration VM. Please follow this KB for future updates.

Workaround

To include those specific characters (Cloud Director suffix) in the migrated VM name, we could rename the VM in Cloud Director by adding a single character, then rename it again to remove that character.

This rename operation will resolved in Cloud Director adding a new suffix to the VM name in the vSphere.
