Issue/Introduction

When trying to perform an auto restore from 3.4 the DMSAR recall fails.

When restoring a dataset using browse/edit, etc. the restore fails with a return code of 08.

DMS2976 AUTO -RESTORE COMPLETED WITH A RETURN CODE OF 08
DMS3367 RESTORE FOR THIS DATA SET WAS UINSECCESSFUL
DMS3888 DMSAR TASK ABENDED FOR DSN=your data set
ABEND CODE=00000000 CN(INTERNAL)

Cause

UNLOAD/RELOAD (REORG) job was cancelled on the RELOAD step causing the FDS (Files Data Set) not to be initialized during the process.

Resolution

When the DMSAR fails, you will need to check the output of the DMSAR restore for further condition codes. In some instances the condition code U0200 could be other issues, but with the DMSAR output this will point to the FDS not initialized or corrupted. In this case the output from the DMSAR indicating the U0200 appears that it is not finding the Files Data Set (FDS) it is looking for.

First check for the correct FDS either through the DMSAR job output or through the ISPF panels pointing to the FDS used. If the FDS is not present, check for cancelled or failing job like an UNLOAD/RELOAD (REORG). Depending on the job step and failure/cancelled it is very likely that the FDS was not initialized and will need to be created by finishing the job steps or rerunning the job.

Once the cancelled/abended job has ended with return code = 0 , you will need to run an auto restore to confirm this has been fixed.
