Issue/Introduction

While upgrading ESXi hosts in SDDC Manager, no target images are available to select, and the wizard displays the following error:

"There are no images available to match the required target version to initiate vLCM upgrade"

Environment

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 5.x

VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) 9.x

Cause

This warning is seen when an image corresponding to the target ESXi version is not imported to SDDC manager.

Resolution

  1. Upload the Package to vLCM in the vSphere Client.
    1. Log in to the vCenter UI with the administrator credentials.
    2. Navigate to Menu > Lifecycle Manager.
    3. Select the correct vCenter > Actions > Import Updates.
    4. Browse to the location of the VMware-ESXi-build-buildNumber-depot.zip and click Import. (Example: VMware-ESXi-Version-BuildNumber-depot.zip)

  2. Edit Image and Validate.
    1. Right-click on the datacenter and create a new test cluster.
    2. Select the option to Create a new image and on the next page select the imported image.

  3. Import into SDDC Manager.
    1. Log in to the SDDC Manager UI with administrator credentials.
    2. Go into Lifecycle Management > Image Management.
    3. From the Import Management page, select the Workload Domain, the test cluster that was created, and the correct image.
    4. Wait for the task to complete in SDDC Manager. Once it is complete, the image is available for use for the ESXi upgrade(s) through SDDC Manager.
