Issue/Introduction

Enter Maintenance Mode task stuck at 17% due to VM evacuation failing.

vMotion operations stuck at 20% and eventually time out with the following message:

  • Failed migrating <VM Name> during host evacuation. Fault cause: vim.fault.GenericVmConfigFault . Try to manually power it off or again migrate to another host in the cluster.

The port group for the vmkernel with the vMotion service is using an active/active NIC teaming configuration.

Environment

VMware vSphere ESXi

VMware vCenter Server

Cause

This issue is commonly caused by pathing issues with the upstream ACI Fabric, and should be investigated by Cisco.

Resolution

To resolve this issue, change the teaming configuration of the vMotion vmkernel's port group to be active/standby, or otherwise change the teaming so that the vMotion vmkernel is forced to use the same side of the Fabric on every host in the cluster.

If isolating vMotion to one side of the Fabric on each host does not resolve your issue, please open a support ticket for further troubleshooting.
