Issue/Introduction

This article intends to be a one-stop place to provide links to step-by-step procedures for installing and upgrading VMware Live Site Recovery

Resolution

You can upgrade existing VMware Live Site Recovery installations.

The VMware Live Site Recovery upgrade process preserves existing information about VMware Live Site Recovery configurations.

For information about supported upgrade paths, see Upgrade Path > VMware Live Site Recovery in the VMware Product Interoperability Matrixes at https://interopmatrix.broadcom.com/Upgrade before you upgrade.

The VMware Live Site Recovery upgrade procedure preserves information from existing installations.

VMware Live Site Recovery preserves settings and configurations that you created for the previous release.

  • Datastore groups
  • Protection groups
  • Inventory mappings
  • Recovery plans
  • IP customizations for individual virtual machines
  • Custom roles and their memberships
  • VMware Live Site Recovery object permissions in vSphere
  • Custom alarms and alarm actions
  • Test plan histories
  • Security certificates
  • Mass IP customization files (CSVs)

NOTE: During an upgrade, VMware Live Site Recovery preserves only protection groups and recovery plans that are in a valid state.

Site Recovery Manager preserves the legacy license only during an upgrade within the same version, for example, from version 8.8.0.x to version 8.8.0.1. During an upgrade to a different version, for example, from 8.7 to 8.8 or later, Site Recovery Manager reverts to an evaluation license. After the upgrade to VMware Live Site Recovery 9.0, you must reinstall your Site Recovery Manager 8.x license key. The Site Recovery Manager 8.x legacy license key works with VMware Live Site Recovery 9.0 and does not require upgrade, but you must reinstall the key after upgrading to VMware Live Site Recovery 9.0.

Process workflow for Upgrading VMware Live Site Recovery Manager:
