Issue/Introduction

This article intends to provide information to enable a successful upgrade to  VMware Aria Automation to 8.18.x.

Environment

Aria Automation 8.x

Resolution

  • Upgrades to Aria Automation 8.18.x must be performed via VMware Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager
  • Ensure the VMware Identity Manager is upgraded to version 3.3.7
  • Ensure that VMware Suite Lifecycle Manager is upgraded to version 8.18
  • Read the target version Release Notes and be aware of Known Issues.
  • Confirm the target Aria Automation version is compatible with other products in the environment, see Interoperability Matrix.
  • Confirm the Aria Automation Upgrade path is supported, see Upgrade Path.
  • Ensure ports required for the upgrade are open e.g. 443/8080 see VMware Ports & Protocols.
  • Download the required upgrade file from the Broadcom Support Portal
  • After downloading, proceed to configure the product binary for Aria Automation
  • If needed, increase the CPU, memory and storage as per the target version. See Hardware Requirements
  • Upgrade to Aria Automation 8.18.x using the steps documented here
  • The Upgrade Pre-Check should be run at least 10 days in advance of a scheduled upgrade window to allow time to address any issues found
    • These Pre-Checks are part of the upgrade process and can be executed at any time prior to submitting the task

Additional Notes:

  • Useful logs for tracking upgrade process:
    /var/log/vmware/prelude/upgrade-noop.log
    /var/log/vmware/prelude/upgrade-<timestamp>.log
    /var/log/deploy.log
  • Important! Snapshot rollback process: Always revert to snapshot using Aria Suite Lifecycle Manager and not directly in vCenter.
