Issue/Introduction

  • Provider Virtual Data Center (PVDC) is backed by more than one resource pool.
  • Error is displayed when migrating virtual machines(VM) from the primary resource pool to a non-primary resource pool in the provider VDC.
Some virtual machines cannot be selected for migration.

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.5.x
VMware Cloud Director 10.6.x

Cause

This issue happens when there are legacy Organization Virtual Data Center(OVDCs) of the type Reservation and non-elastic allocation models present in the PVDC.

Resolution

To workaround the issue, the following steps can be applied:

  1. Identify the organization VDCs to which such virtual machines belong.
  2. Change the allocation model to Flex, as described in Converting a Legacy VDC Allocation Model to a Flex Allocation Model and How to Change the Allocation Model of an Organization Virtual Data Center (OVDC) in VMware Cloud Director (VCD)
  3. Enable the elasticity setting for the Organization VDC by following the steps in Modify the Allocation Model Settings of an Organization Virtual Data Center in VMware Cloud Director
