Issue/Introduction

  • Creating a virtual service in VCD(VMware Cloud Director) stays stuck in pending state

  • VCD leverages VMware NSX Advanced Load Balancer (Avi Networks) solution for creation of load balancer virtual services. Reviewing the status of virtual service from Avi UI , you notice the virtual service reports error "Service Engine Service_engine_name requires access to subnet IPaddress/subnet in the network to reach server. Unable to acquire IP address"

  • Creation of virtual service directly from Avi UI also fails with error mentioned above

Environment

VMware Cloud Director
NSX Advanced Load Balancer (Avi Networks)

Cause

This issue occurs when the network profile associated with the network has DHCP enabled or the IP pool does not have required IP addresses on  NSX Advanced Load Balancer (Avi Networks)

Resolution

To resolve this issue, perform any one of of the following depending on the type of network being used:

  1. Static IP pool: Ensure the network profile associated with the network on Avi Load balancer does not have DHCP enabled and is configured valid IP range and contains free IP addresses.
  2.  DHCP:  Ensure 'Enable DHCP' option is enabled on the network profile and the underlying network has DHCP services configured.
