Issue/Introduction

  • On the License Key there is a warning like the one below:

License is overused since it currently has # members which exceeds capacity

  • The license is still valid.
  • The PLU license usage exceed the PLU license capacity.
  • Some ESX hosts have been added to the "Unlicensed group" to reduce the PLU license usage, however the warning still persisted on the license.
  • The ESX hosts added to the "Unlicensed group" are still part of the "Always include" list of an existing license group.
  • When trying to exclude the ESX hosts from the existing license group using the "Always exclude" list, the "finish" icon is grayed out.

Environment

Aria Operations 8.18.3

Cause

It is not supported excluding an object from a license by adding the objects to the "Unlicensed group".

The "Unlicensed group" is automatically populated with the unlicensed objects that are not part of a licensing group or par of the "Always exclude" lists on a license group.

Resolution

OPTION 1

  1. To restore the "Unlicensed Group" to default configurations follow the resolution on Error: "Define member criteria or objects to include" when removing objects from the "Unlicensed group" in Aria Operations
  2. To properly exclude the objects from the license using the "Always exclude" lists as per documentation at VMware Aria Operations License Groups

OPTION 2

Upgrade the license to increase the PLU  license capacity. For additional information visit License Key Management for VMware Products
