Issue/Introduction

  • In the Aria Operations UI, following error message is displayed during cost calculation "Calculation completed on x out of x DCs (failed y)"

  • The following error message is observed in /storage/log/vcops/log/bmcontroller.log file:

Caused by: java.lang.NullPointerException
at com.vmware.vrbc.costengine.costcalculation.VropsCostPopulator.lambda$isAllocationModelEnabled$17(VropsCostPopulator.java:876) ~[?:?]

Environment

VMware Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

The cost calculation fails because one or more VM virtual disks are linked to datastores that no longer exist, leading to a null pointer exception during the allocation model check.
