Issue/Introduction
This procedure addresses the need to delete an edge cluster
An incorrect management IP address has been configured for an edge node in VCF9
After selecting the affected Edge node and choosing the "edit" action, the following error message can be seen: [Fabric] IPV4 address update not allowed for edge only first management_port_subnets update is allowed with Dual stack Address. (Error code: 16115)
• This applies to IPv4 configuration only, not IPv6. • If you try and delete this node, it will fail with the below error: Transport node delete Failed: The object path=[/infra/sites/default/enforcement-points/default/edge-transport-nodes/] cannot be deleted as either it has children or it is being referenced by other objects path=[/infra/sites/default/enforcement-points/default/edge-clusters/]
Environment
VCF 9
Cause
This is expected behavior. Changing the management IP (IPv4) address of an Edge transport node can only be done through a redeploy or replacement of the Edge node.
Resolution
• When replacing an Edge node in VCF9, there usually are related objects that must be deleted before the Edge itself can be redeployed. ○ If external connectivity is not configured, the edges and edge cluster can be deleted and redeployed from the vCenter Server UI. ○ If external connectivity is configured, the edge cluster can be deleted from the vCenter Server UI but the edges and dependent objects must be deleted from the NSX UI.
Note: These steps assume that configuring advanced networking has not progressed beyond the initial steps of configuring external connectivity in the vCenter Sever UI. If more extensive advanced networking has been configured, deploying new edges and deleting the misconfigured edges would be the preferred solution.
Removing Edge nodes from VCF9
In the NSX UI, navigate to Networking > Transit Gateways.
Click the three vertical dots next to the Default Transit Gateway and select Edit.
Under the External Connection column, click the x on the connection to remove it.
Click the Save button.
Navigate to Networking > External Connections.
Click the three vertical dots next to the external connection that was deleted in Step 3 and select Delete.
Navigate to Networking > Tier-0 Gateways.
Click the three vertical dots next to the T0 gateway and select Delete.
In the vCenter Server UI, in the Inventory view, select the vCenter Server (top level of the inventory) and navigate to Networks > Network Connectivity.
Click the three vertical dots next to the edge cluster and select Delete.
In the NSX UI, navigate to System > Fabric > Nodes.
Select both edges and then click the Delete button.
