HCX Error during Bulk migration switchover: "Sync operation couldn't be performed as Virtual Machine 'vm-####' is not in powered off state"

Issue/Introduction

• Bulk Migration fails at the time of cutover with the following error message.
• Error message seen in HCX UI:
  "Sync operation couldn't be performed as Virtual Machine 'vm-####' is not in powered off state"
• In the app.log (/common/logs/admin/app.log), a similar error can be found:
  ERROR c.v.h.s.r.jobs.SyncOperationJob- Sync operation couldn't be performed as Virtual Machine 'vm-####' is not in powered off state

Cause

This issue can occur when there is a difference between HCX and vCenter regarding the powered-on state of a VM.

Resolution

This is a known issue impacting VMware HCX.

Workaround :

Retry the failed migration and if the migration fails, please open a support case with Broadcom Support and refer to this KB article.
