Error: "The resource "datastore_uuid> is in use" is seen when deleting the inaccessible datastore.

Issue/Introduction

Symptoms:

Inaccessible datastores noticed in the vCenter. The backing device for the datastore is already removed, Multiple ESXi host are noticed connected to the inaccessible datastores.

Rebooting the ESXi hosts does not clear the inaccessible datastores.

When try to delete the datastore, the user get the following error.

Environment

VMware vSAN 8.0.x

Cause

When checked for the vCLS VM's on the datastores, no entries can be seen. However if the vCLS VMs were forcefully deleted without following retreat mode. In this case, the datastore could end into this state.

Resolution

Disable the vCLS retreat mode, rescan the storage and then enable it again. The inaccessible datastore should get removed.
