Issue/Introduction

  • XVmotion(Storage and compute) fails with the following error

“Failed to load some of the disks of the virtual machine.”
  • Validated the vmkernel.log on the ESXI

Failed waiting for data. Error 195887167. Connection closed by remote host, possibly due to timeout. ###-##-##T18:58:51.725716Z Failed to create one or more destination disks. • The disks are stored on the local Storage of the ESXI

Environment

  • VMware vCenter Server 7.x
  • VMware vCenter Server 8.x

Cause

  • This error typically indicates a transient issue where the destination host was temporarily unable to access one or more of the VM’s disk files. Potential causes include temporary file locking, host agent cache inconsistencies, or brief storage/network access delays.
  • Stale or Broken Disk Metadata during the first attempt
  • Host file cache or metadata sync delay

Resolution

  • Re-attempting the XVmotion works successfully
