Issue/Introduction

Situation:

  • You have an Endevor environment containing inventory structures and elements
  • You need to remove the elements, optionally keeping the inventory structures
  • You are not concerned about element outputs being left behind

How to do to quickly clean this environment?

Resolution

The fastest option is to DELETE/DEFINE the MCF datasets. This will remove all the elements and inventory structures from the MCFs.

There are a few considerations to bear in mind:

  • Both MCFs need to be deleted.
  • If you need to KEEP the inventory structures, you need to first extract them using the BUILD SCL FOR SYSTEM '*' ... action of the ENBE1000 utility (batch environment maintenance) to extract the definitions of all systems. Specify INCLUDE SUBORDINATES so that all the dependent inventory structures are extracted
  • Also, just in case, ensure that the DEFINE statements created in the previous step define all the inventory structures
  • After the MCFs are deleted, run the BC1JCSYN utility in UPDATE mode to delete the catalog segments for the element records that were stored in the MCFs
  • Finally, if needed, run the ENBE1000 utility with the DEFINE statements previously created
