Issue/Introduction

Symptoms

  • vSphere Replication on the production site was upgraded

  • The vSphere Replication appliance on the recovery site is not fully upgraded and is on N-2 version

For example, vSphere replication appliance on the production site was on version 8.7 and is now upgraded to version 9.0.1

The appliance on the recovery site is also upgraded to version 9.0.1, but the reconfiguration of the appliance is yet to be done

In the vSphere client, under site recovery plugin the appliance still reports as version 8.7 since the upgrade process is not complete

Environment

vSphere Replication 8.x

vSphere Replication 9.x

Cause

For vsphere replication site pairs, the appliance on the paired site should either be on the same version or on N-1 version

Compatibility and Heterogeneous Configurations across the Paired Sites

Resolution

Upgrade the vSphere Replication appliance on the recovery site to the same version as that of production site or to N-1 version.

In cases where the appliance has been upgraded and reconfigure of the appliance is pending, reconfigure the appliance and then reconnect the site pair
