Issue/Introduction

Creating a Baseline with Dell Custom ISO and remediating against it using VMware Lifecycle Manager will result in Compliance Failure and Error message will be "Conflicting VIBS on esxi host"

Environment

  • Dell VRTX Server Family
  • VMware vSphere ESXi 8.x

Cause

Upgrading VRTX Servers to vSphere ESXi 8.x or later releases is not supported, as Dell has discontinued Driver Development for the Shared PERC 8 Controller starting with vSphere ESXi 8.x.

The following device drivers, which were developed by Dell and are no longer available in vSphere ESXi 8.x and subsequent releases, have been deprecated. For more detailed information, please refer to the following link:  Devices deprecated and unsupported in ESXi 8.0

Resolution

As outlined in the Dell Knowledge Base article here, Driver Development for Dell VRTX Servers has been discontinued for VMware vSphere ESXi versions beyond 7.x. This means that Dell does not provide support for VMware ESXi 8.x or later releases on VRTX Servers.

Due to this vendor limitation, the Dell VRTX Server is not compatible with vSphere ESXi 8.x and later versions.

For any further support or clarifications regarding this matter, we recommend reaching out directly to Dell Support.
