VSS-manifest.zip file is not generating under the snapshot folder

Issue/Introduction

Database backups on SQL database servers are failing when using Appaware .  

VSS-manifest.zip file is not being generated in the snapshot directory - this manifest file is used by the database Appaware backup software to take the backup.

Environment

VMware vCenter Server 8.0.3

VMware ESXi 8.0.3

Commvault Backup software

 

Cause

Seeing Windows Application event errors pointing to VSS issue on virtual machines.

• Critical error1:

  Cryptographic Services failed while processing the OnIdentity() call in the System Writer Object.

• Critical error2:

  Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error DeviceIoControl(\\?\fdc#generic_floppy_drive#6&2bc13940&0&0#{53f5630d-b6bf-11d0-94f2-00a0c91efb8b} - 0000000000000454,0x00560000,0000000000000000,0,00000229FAFDCEB0,4096,[0]).  hr = 0x80070001, Incorrect function.

Resolution

Fix VSS issues found in Windows Application logs
