Issue/Introduction

In Aria Operations, VMware Infrastructure Health (VIH) adapter triggered the health app alerts on vCenter and SDDC Manager due to Reverse Lookup FAILED status.

However, on the SSH console, Forward and Reverse Lookup resolve successfully.

Environment

Aria Operations 8.x

Cause

DNS Capitalization Issue : The reverse lookup from SDDC Manager shows hostnames in mixed case (e.g., "vc01.EXAMPLE.COM"), while all objects and environments follow a lowercase naming convention.

The result file can be found on the collector of the vCenter in the following folder:

/usr/lib/vmware-vcops/user/plugins/inbound/VMwareInfrastructureHealthAdapter/work/Health-results.json

The following sample result can be seen from the result of the API call to SDDC Manager Manager.

"Reverse DNS lookup is NOT configured as expected, resolved dns vc01.EXAMPLE.COM is not equal to vc01.example.com"

Resolution

Please refer to KB article SDDC Manager sos health-check shows Reverse DNS as YELLOW to review the setting in the SDDC Manager and ensure that all hosts, including the SDDC Manager and the vCenter, are in lowercase hostname naming convention.
