VCF Operations VMware vCenter Server

Issue/Introduction

  • After upgrading to vCenter 9, you attempt to deploy a VCF Operations node and encounter this error:
Active association of the solution with vCenter Server <FQDN> already exists
  • This can also be seen anytime you associate a vCenter that has existing VCF or Aria Operations linked regardless of if the linked Operations instance currently exists.

Environment

vCenter 9.0

VCF Operations 9.0

Cause

This occurs when an existing client plugin or registration exists in the vCenter for another Operations instance.

Resolution

If the Operations instance is active, you can:

  1. Upgrade to VCF Operations 9 (no need to deploy a new appliance).
    • or
  2. Unregister the vCenter from the Operations UI and continue with the installation.

If the Operations instance is deleted or inactive, you will need to remove the Operations Client Plugin from the vCenter MOB: https://knowledge.broadcom.com/external/article/338384
