Unable to import with Cannot import error message in VMware Cloud Director

Issue/Introduction

When attempting to import a VM in Cloud Director after a failure importing we receive the error message:
"Cannot import VM ####### (vm-####) in RP (resgroup-####) into VDC (##) since it is already managed by VMware Cloud Director."

Environment

VMware Cloud Director 10.x

Cause

The VM was partially imported before the task failed. There are stale references in the database.

There are possible other causes such as the VM already having a cloud UUID as an extra property in vCenter as well.

Resolution

Open a support request with Broadcom VCF support referencing this support request number.
