After upgrading VMware Aria Orchestrator from 8.18.1 to 9.0.0.0, vSphere authentication fails, preventing login via the Orchestrator client.

Issue/Introduction

• Commands vracli vro authentication wizard and vracli vro authentication set -p vsphere fail with error: "Error occurred while configuring authentication."

Environment

• VMware Aria Automation Orchestrator 8.18.1.
• VMware Cloud Foundation Orchestartor 9.0. 

Cause

• The automatic reconfiguration of vSphere authentication during the upgrade to 9.0.0.0 failed, leaving Orchestrator unable to authenticate.

Resolution

• Manually reconfigure vSphere authentication for VRO, using the steps in the Broadcom KB article 383139
