Reconfigure Model in Spectrum is extremely slow for some devices

Issue/Introduction

We occasionally need to run "Reconfigure Model" in Spectrum, but we have noticed that sometimes it can take a very long time, up to 10 minutes and we can see errors like this in the VNM.OUT during this time.

 

"Request ######## accepted, but not complete after 60000ms".

 

What is causing the delay for Reconfigure Model and how can we fix this?

Environment

Spectrum : ANY

Cause

When Reconfigure Model runs, it can also read the routing tables and this can cause significant delay.

Resolution

For devices that have large routing tables you can try to disable these options

 

From the VNM model, Autodiscovery Control, Modeling and Protocol Options

 

ARP Table Discovery  set to NO

Source Address Tables set to NO

 

By disabling these options this can significantly decrease the time from 10 minutes down to under 60 seconds.

Additional Information

There is another option to check on the device called Rediscovery after Reconfigure that can also cause excessive delays.
