Issue/Introduction

The console for RHEL 9 instances does not load the graphical interface and remains blank.

Environment

7.x

Cause

  • There is a behaviour observed in RHEL 9 Series Virtual Machines where the Video Memory is set to 4MB.
  • RHEL 8 VMs have 8MB of video memory, and it works fine.

Resolution

Manually increase the video memory of the instances to 8MB and rebuild the instance. 

  1.  Update the "hw_video_ram" property in Image Metadata and set the value to 8 MB.
  2.  Update Flavor Metadata "hw_video:ram_max_mb" property in flavor metadata and set the value to 8 MB.  
  3.  Rebuild the Instance with the updated flavor and image metadata.
