The security license is not applied on NSX

Issue/Introduction

The licenses referenced in the alarm message failed one or more required preconditions and therefore could not be applied to NSX.

Environment

NSX version 9.1.0.0 and above

Cause

The license VMware Defend Firewall ending with XXXX could not be applied. Reason: VMware Defend Firewall key can be added only if valid "VMware Cloud Foundation" key exists.

 The alarm is due to one or more preconditions required for applying the license were not met. The specific reason(s) for the failure are detailed in the alarm message.

 

For more details, refer to the NSX Manager log file: /var/log/proton/nsxapi.log

Resolution

Review the description in the alarm message to identify the failed precondition(s), and take appropriate corrective actions accordingly.

Additional Information

The VCF Base license is a prerequisite for all licenses. Please ensure a valid VCF Base license is installed before attempting to apply licenses.
