Issue/Introduction

Relationship do not reset for Virtual machines after migration from one OVDC to another OVDC causing VM to get billed for both OVDCs.

Object hierarchy of migrated Virtual machines shows relationships with source and destination OVDCs in 'Topology' option in Aria Operations.

Environment

Aria Operations 8.18.x
vCloud Director Management Pack 8.18.x

Cause

This is an expected behavior as Aria Operations tries to retain the existing relationship until the object is completely removed from inventory.

Resolution

Note: vApp should not be deleted for 24 hours to avoid duplicate billing as vApp -> VM relationships reset every 24 hours by design. Future release of VCD Management Pack will have configurable vAPP -> VM relationship by overriding 24hr default relationship reset.

Workaround to manually reset relationship for migrated objects before deleting vAPP/OVDC.

  1. SSH to the Collector Node where vCD Adapter instance is running.
  2. Edit file /usr/lib/vmware-vcops/user/plugins/inbound/vcloud_adapter3/conf/vcloud.properties using "vi" editor
  3. Enable "RESET_RELATIONSHIPS" to value "true"
  4. Stop and Start the collection for vCD Adapter instance.

On further collection of adapter, Aria Operations should reset the relationships of objects.
