Issue/Introduction

Problem:
Users are unable to open individual search results in a new browser tab or window within the Automic Web Interface (AWI) using standard browser shortcuts like Ctrl + Left-Click or a mouse wheel click. This functionality previously worked as expected in earlier AWI versions (e.g., v21.x).

Symptoms:

  1. Navigate to the global search page in AWI.
  2. Perform a search and view the results.
  3. Attempt to open a specific search result in a new tab using:
    • Holding Ctrl + Left-Click on the result.
    • Clicking the result with the mouse wheel.
  4. Observed Behavior (AWI v24.x prior to fix): No new browser tab or window is opened. The link either opens in the current tab or the action has no effect. Hovering over search results also does not display a standard hyperlink indicator.
  5. Expected Behavior (AWI v21.x and fixed v24.x): A new browser tab or window should open, displaying the selected object's details.

Environment

AWI 24.x

Cause

DE172766

An internal change in the AWI's rendering of global search results in AWA 24.x inadvertently prevented them from behaving as standard hyperlinks. This broke the native browser functionality for opening links in new tabs. While direct clicks would still open objects in the current tab, the Ctrl+Click or middle-click feature was no longer supported.

Resolution

Solution:

This was fixed for Ctrl+Click, middle-click should be fixed at a later time

Update to a fix version listed below or a newer version if available.

Components:
  • Automic Web Interface
Fixed Versions:
  • Automation.Engine 24.4.2 - Available
