Issue/Introduction

Replication is failing for virtual machines with the status 'Not Active'.

Logs from vmkernel.log on the ESXi host suggest that the host is unable to connect to the remote vSphere Replication server on TCP port 31031, likely due to a network or firewall restriction.

Error: vmkwarning: WARNING: Hbr: Failed to establish connection to [192.168.#.#]:31031:Network unreachable.

Environment

VMware vSphere Replication 8.X

Cause

Communication on port 31031 was blocked between the source ESXi host and the destination vSphere Replication server

Resolution

Please ensure that TCP port 31031 is open to allow communication from the source ESXi host, where the replicated VM resides, to the destination vSphere Replication server.
