Issue/Introduction

SRM didn't remove the standard port groups.

Cause

An active test in SRM (VMware Site Recovery Manager) creates a test environment on the recovery site to simulate a disaster recovery scenario. If you remove the SRM before it finishes its cleanup, it can cause Stale port groups to remain.

OR

The PG (port group) was on a host that was disconnected at the time of the cleanup and when the host came back, it readded the port groups on the vCenter.

Resolution

  • You don't have an SRM running, you can remove the standard port group and then remove the standard switch on the hosts.
    • Select the Host
    • Under Configure, go to Networking and select the Virtual switches
    • Confirm there are no VMs or vmks on the Standard Switch.
    • Click on the ellipses of the Standard port group and remove it.
    • Then click on the ellipses for the Standard Switch and remove it.
