Issue/Introduction

This article helps on how to create NSX Sub Transport Node profile and how to apply them on to the NSX Sub Clusters.

Environment

NSX 3.2.2 and above

Resolution

This process has 3 steps involved

i) Configuring Subcluster
ii) Creating a Sub-Transport Node profile
iii)
Appling the Transport Node Profile (which has the Sub-Transport Node profile) to the Sub-Clusters

Please follow the below steps :

Configuring Subcluster

i) Goto Systems --> Configurations --> Fabrics--> Hosts --> "Clusters"

ii) Select the desired cluster and click "Set" under the column "Sub-Cluster"

Provide the name to the subcluster you are creating and click "Set" under the "Nodes" column to add the Nodes to this Sub-Cluster

You can see all the Hosts under the same Cluster will be listed here.
Select the required Hosts and click "Apply"

You should be seeing the Subcluster created with Number of Nodes in it as below

Going back to the Clusters you should be seeing the Subclusters listed as below

Creating a Sub-Transport Node profile

Goto System-->Configuration-->Hosts and select "Transport Node Profile" and click "Add Transport Node Profile"

Provide the name for Transport Node Profile and click "Set" under "Host Switch" to configure Host Switch

Proceed with appropriate configurations and for  "Sub-Transport Node Profile" click "Set"

A new window with Sub-Transport Node Profile will be displayed where you can configure the required settings for the Sub-Transport Node Profile

Click "Add" and "Apply" to see the the Sub-Transport Node Profiles you created

You should see the Sub-Transport Node Profiles created as below

Click "Add" under the Sub Transport Node Profile" to apply

Click the "Apply" button under the bottom of the "Host Switch" to apply and come out back to Transport Node Profile page, then click "save

A Transport Node Profile with a Sub-Transport Node Profile is now created

Apply the Transport Node Profile (which has the Sub-Transport Node profile) to the Sub-Clusters

Click the Cluster with Sub-Clusters we created and click "Configure NSX

NSX Installation window shows up where you can select the Transport Node Profile(which has the Sub-Tranport Node Profile") we created , from the drop-down

Expand the Sub-Clusters and select the desired Sub-Transport Node Profiles here from the drop-down and click "Save"

You should be seeing the Sub-Transport Node Profiles getting applied to the Sub-Clusters as below

The Transport Node Profile should be displayed as below under "Applied Profile"

This Transport Node Profile should also show the cluster we applied it to as below under "Applied Clusters"
